24th July 2023 (low cloud, mild) 0km

Took some panadol before bed last night and then again in the night.  Very hard to get comfortable, but once off, managed some sleep, at both times.  It was raining when I got up in the night and still going this morning, although the forecast is to clear.  Certainly hope so as we want to push on today as there is supposedly a window of fine weather and we want to utilize it for Lofoten.

Seeing how the weather can change here, we just hope we can capture as many images as possible as we head toward the tail end of the journey.

It's now 1.13pm.  About 11am we decided to stay another day here.  Firstly to see if this pain eases and also because the weather is still misty and overcast, which doesn't show the real beauty of this area.

So, without anything on the bikes, we rode about 3km to the shop.  Easy riding, no problem. At the store I repositioned my bike by lifting it off to one side. Immediately, I felt the pain, so I can only imagine that I've done it originally moving my loaded bike, which I do regularly throughout the day.  I have to say that each time I do, it lets me know, so I've probably pushed the boundaries.

When water just won't cut it.

It's Crabbies Alcoholic Ginger Beer and Carlsberg o'clock.  For the past couple of hours, we've been on a hike around the stunning rocky and tree dotted landscape that surrounds the campsite.
The mist started to lift and we got some incredible shots.  We got quite warm walking to the far end of the island and felt like we were in our own little world.  The water was very clear so we started to look for a place to go for a skinny dip.  No problem getting in, but might be a problem getting out as sheer rock or loads of kelp round the edges.

We'd just about decided that we'd found the best spot when another couple come along.  Dammit. Was keen to see how warm or cold the water was. Turns out they were from Holland and as we stood round chatting,  we spotted a couple of small porpoises,  gliding through the water.  It was a beautiful spot but we left then so they could enjoy it on their own, as we had done.....before they showed up and ruined it.

Glad now that we didn't move on today.  Definitely gave me another day to improve what I think is just a badly strained muscle.  The walking was no problem, except when I stopped and bent down to tie my laces.  Then it grabbed me.  Returning from there at 5pm, we both showered and got stuck into our pre dinner schedule.  Interesting to watch the camper vans filing in from about 4pm each night in most camp sites.

Just thought that I should mention that just before we arrived in Furoy camp, or the small community of Halsa, we had crossed into the Arctic Circle.  Apparently this means that you are now allowed to wear woolly socks to bed.  Willy warmers are optional, but do come in a variety of colors, including psychedelic.

Men when taking part in sexual activity are expected to wear Viking horns and announce loudly "I am Thor"
To which the women would reply, "I'm not surprised with all that sex."

Ate delicious burgers prepared by Julia, from the assortment of food we picked up earlier in the day.  Currently listening to Supertramp..."Take the long way home."  We are certainly doing that.

  1. The first thing I do each morning is make a cup of tea and check for the latest blog. If it's there I read it through, glancing at the photos that come up quite small. Then I click on each image to look at each one enlarged. Next comes a look at the witty comments from friends and family, then I go back through and read the latest day's blog again. I'm going to miss this little ritual once you come home!

take it easy on your lifting Peter. And well done Julia on your catering it keeps the wheels turning..
